so what is the "lateral thinking" mean and how it differ from the other methods
It's a collection of techniques to help you generate ideas in systematic way ????.
but wait how could it be creative and systematic in the same time; this is what differentiate lateral thinking from other methods.
Brain storming vs Lateral thinking
brain storming is chasotic method to get new ideas, like try 100 shoots in hope to get two or more original ideas, it can give some results but MR "de pono" say it waste time and energy because its like put all your stakes in one place.
in contrary to lateral thinking which use predefined steps and several techniques in order to hack the ideas from several angels
to use lateral thinking you must be familiar with its tools
Mr De pono spent 30 years to make his "lateral thinking" tools, it's not practical to mention all the tools as it exceeds 10 tools. I choose two popular tools to talk about. but you can peek on his book "Serious Creativity" for more tools.
In this method, you get a random word from any source (like open dictionary and get the first word you see), and try to link this word to your current subject, by this way you try to get something unusual by focus on your subject and the random word
The creative pause
It works like that, when you read something on specific subject you make a 5 minutes pause and try to find improvements or alternative ways to do the current subject
